5 people charged in Medicare fraud in Puerto Rico

Five people have been arrested in Puerto Rico on charges of committing nearly $1 million in Medicare fraud by submitting bills for ambulance trips that never happened.

U.S. Attorney Rosa Emilia Rodriguez says all five were arrested Thursday on grand jury indictments.

Doctors Luis Guzman Ruiz and Juan Colon Quinones and ambulance service owner Noel Vera are charged with falsifying 4,689 reimbursements over two years for patients supposedly carried by Vera Ambulance Services. A second indictment names another ambulance company owner and a doctor's aide who allegedly forged his employer's signature.
